BODEGA STORY:

Cebreros (the region)

Zerberos is made in the historical winemaking region of Cebreros, and within what we call today Garnachas de Gredos. The main town of this region, (called Cebreros as well) is situated at 80 kilometers southwest of the city of Madrid, in the state of Avila.

Cebreros is located in the mountain range of the "Sierra de Gredos", in a valley crossed by the Alberche river, that is driven from west to east by the mountains, leaving the town, and the Zerberos vineyards, many of which were planted close to 100 years ago with Garnacha, on an exposed south facing slope at Cebreros, north facing at El Tiemblo and all kind of orientations and higher altitude at El Barraco.

The altitude of this slope ranges from 1,200 metres high down to 600 metres.
There are two basic types of soils: Slate made of Schist and Granitic Sand, both of which contain little organic material.

Zerberos (the wine)

Daniel V. Ramos knows this region well, and has been making wine in the mountains of Cebreros since 1998. In his aim to recover the essence of what this winemaking region has meant in the past, Daniel V. Ramos started to buy vineyards of very old Garnacha and began making wine with them. All of the Daniel’s Zerberos vineyards are situated near by the town of Cebreros, in both sandy and schists soils, in the south facing slope metioned before, with altitudes that go from 800 to 1,000 metres high. Today he is looking forward in making some other wines from some other towns such as El Tiemblo (with both type of soils), at the other side of the river from Cebreros and El Barraco with sandy granitic soils, higher up in the valley.
